Since February 24, 2022, the people of Ukraine have faced widespread violence, destruction and displacement.
At least 17.6 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and protection, including almost 8 million people who have fled to surrounding countries and other host countries, and 6 million people who have left their homes but stayed within the country. Millions of people who have remained or returned to their homes are also facing extremely harsh conditions.
Of the people fleeing the country, 90% are women and children, as the men have stayed behind to defend their country. People affected by the conflict in Ukraine need the basic necessities of life including food, water, shelter and health care, as well as protection, mental health support and education.
