JOB OPENING: COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (Bilingual)
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Partnerships, the Communications Specialist is a key role within our organization, tasked with supporting and executing comprehensive communication strategies to effectively convey the impactful work of Humanitarian Coalition (HC) and its member organizations. This role involves managing content creation and social media strategy and execution; supporting website and digital strategies; and collaborating cross functionally with internal and member stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing and sharing engaging content through storytelling, creating visuals using graphic design tools and leading the implementation of the organization's digital communications plans. Additionally, the Communications Specialist tracks performance metrics, and coordinates website initiatives, ensuring a consistent and engaging online presence across all platforms.
The Communications Specialist contributes to the production of bilingual reports to highlight the impact of members' programs in response to humanitarian crises--both large-scale appeals and smaller program activations. As needed, this role also supports on media relations, the planning and execution of government and stakeholder events, and community engagement.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's Degree: Typically, in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
At least 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field. - Experience in developing and/or implementing communication strategies.
- Bilingualism (oral and written) required, with advanced English and French writing and storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.
- Knowledge and experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Meltwater).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and execute communication strategies and/or plans aligned with organizational goals.
- Experience in analyzing data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and make strategic recommendations.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues.
WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU EXTRAORDINARY
- Previous experience working in a humanitarian organization or nonprofit sector, particularly in an international context, could be advantageous.
- Familiarity with humanitarian principles, international development issues, or specific thematic areas relevant to the organization's work could be desired, although not always essential.
REQUIREMENTS
- Promote and maintain an organizational culture that advances gender equality, reduces power abuse and inequalities, and fosters trust and safety.
- Create an environment within CARE's workplaces, programming, and communities where CARE works that is free from sexual harassment, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation and child abuse (SHEA-CA).
- Ensure high standards of prevention and response measures for SHEA-CA are in place consistent with the CARE International (CI) Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Starting salary between $73,000 - $78,000

LOCATION
Remote with periodic travel to Ottawa HC office, and possibly other cities or member offices.
- Expected percentage of travel time: 10%
