Humanitarian Needs

Typhoon Kammuri caused a storm surge, flooding and landslides that damaged and destroyed homes in several provinces of the Philippines. The water supply was also impacted by flooding and the loss of electrical power. In many schools that serve as evacuation centres, the washroom facilities are damaged or inadequate. Many residents who rely on fishing and farming as their source of food and livelihood have lost their crops.

Humanitarian Response

CARE will respond to this crisis in the province of North Samar by prioritizing shelter and water needs of families leaving the evacuation centre and those who stayed in the communities affected by the Typhoon.

CARE will provide a multi-purpose cash transfer to cover immediate basic needs, mainly construction repair materials and household supplies. Cash recipients will receive training on the Building Back Safer techniques and principles.

Families will also receive kits including water containers, soap, and water purification sachets, along with hygiene awareness training.
