Humanitarian Needs

In November 2024, Tropical Storm Sara severely impacted several regions in Honduras, with up to 300-500mm of rainfall destroying houses, livestock, livelihoods and public infrastructure. More than 84,000 people were directly affected, including more than 16,000 who were displaced from their homes. Impacts of the storm and flooding have seriously disrupted access to health services, shelter, food and protection services.

Humanitarian Response

World Vision has a longstanding presence in Honduras, working to improve the well-being of children, families, and communities across the country. Since its establishment in Honduras in 1974, World Vision has focused on addressing the root causes of poverty, promoting child protection, and fostering sustainable development.

World Vision Canada will provide multi-purpose cash assistance to approximately 10,000 people (or 2,108 families) for four months to ensure the most vulnerable people affected by the storm can use the funds to meet their urgent life-saving needs for food, shelter and hygiene.

Follow-up and monitoring activities will be carried out by World Vision staff members following the distribution through surveys with a sample of program participants, asking questions such as: Did the money received help cover your needs? Did the distribution lead to any form of violence with your partner? Can you share your experience regarding the proper use of the funds? In Honduras, where gender inequality is deeply rooted, such monitoring is critical to preventing gender-based violence that could arise from the distribution of cash assistance grants. To ensure safety, measures are put in place to ensure the safety of all program participants, especially women.
