Severe Tropical Storm Trami, locally named Kristine, struck the Philippines on October 21, 2024. It was the deadliest storm to hit the Philippines in 2024, claiming 125 lives and causing severe flooding. The storm affected 7.9 million people and displaced approximately 685,000. Displaced families are living in cramped evacuation centres, makeshift tents, open spaces, or the homes of friends and relatives, with limited access to food, essential household supplies, clean drinking water, and hygiene items.

Humanitarian Response

Oxfam Canada and its local partner Coastal Core will provide emergency water and sanitation, protection services, including urgent sexual and reproductive health care, basic relief items, and multi-purpose cash to the most vulnerable families who have lost their homes and livelihoods. The assistance will benefit approximately 15,000 people over six months to address urgent humanitarian needs in the Philippines.

As much as 1,500 vulnerable families who have lost their livelihoods and are unable to earn an income will receive one-time multi-purpose cash assistance to meet their immediate needs. Additionally, Oxfam Canada and its partners will provide immediate access to drinking water for 1,000 families.
