Heavy rains beginning on August 24 and continuing for weeks brought widespread flooding to the West African country of Mali. The Humanitarian Coalition, through member agency Islamic Relief Canada and with support from the Canadian government, is responding to the most pressing needs of people in Nara, the hardest hit region of the country.

Tropical Cyclone Fani made landfall on May 3 in the Odisha region of India, sweeping through thousands of villages and across vast swaths of agricultural land, destroying homes, infrastructure and livelihoods. It is estimated that more than 15 million people from 16,000 villages were affected. The Humanitarian Coalition and its member agencies welcome the Government of Canada’s decision to match donations by Canadians in response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development, announced today that individual donations to the Humanitarian Coalition and its 10 members will be matched from March 15 to April 14, to a maximum of $2 million.
