Thanks to the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund, Oxfam-Québec will be able to assist impacted individuals and communities with timely emergency relief aid following the heavy rain which began beginning of July in most parts of Kyauk Taw, one of the most affected townships by floods in Rakhine State this year.
Vulnerability and poverty in general is high among the village community. It is predominantly the farming communities that have been affected because it is paddy plantation time and paddy fields are under water. Their home gardening areas are also under water.
Oxfam is the only international agency with a functioning office in Kyauk Taw. Oxfam-Québec will be providing support to these communities through a project of a total amount of 312,000 CAD. Activities will include the provision of emergency Water & Sanitation facilities and the provision of livelihood support such as distribution of agriculture seeds and equipment, livestock and support to petty business.
