Embracing inclusivity and diversity

Inclusivity, diversity and acceptance have taken on a greater meaning in light of recent events around the world. Those values are important to the Humanitarian Coalition, and today we are taking another step to reflect Canada’s multiculturalism and diversity in how Canada comes to the aid of survivors of international crises.

Humanitarian Coalition existing members CARE Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam-Québec, Plan International Canada and Save the Children are pleased to welcome Canadian Lutheran World Relief and Islamic Relief Canada as members. This addition increases the Humanitarian Coalition’s reach and diversity while continuing its goal of enabling Canadians to help more people affected by disasters worldwide.

When lives are at stake, competition for donations and visibility means less aid is available to those in need. In the past, the Canadian public and the private sector have expressed their desire to see more collaboration within the international development and humanitarian relief sector. Today’s announcement exemplifies this, and the Humanitarian Coalition hopes this leads to more members in the future.

“These two organizations have extensive disaster relief experience and backgrounds. We are excited to have them join the Humanitarian Coalition, and hope this is just the beginning of seeing increased collaboration across the sector as well as from Canadians everywhere. By working together, we can have a greater impact during times of large international disasters,” said Patricia Erb, Chair of the Humanitarian Coalition.

Following proven collaborative approaches for disaster fundraising from around the world, the Humanitarian Coalition reduces competition and increases Canada’s collective impact in helping others. Humanitarian Coalition member leverage each other’s strengths, networks and organizational capacity to quickly reach and help the most vulnerable and in need. Together, we can save more lives.
