Humanitarian Needs

In September, tens of thousands of ethnic Armenians fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region after the area was surrendered to Azerbaijan in September. The territory has been recognized internationally as part of Azerbaijan, but large areas of it have been controlled by ethnic Armenians for three decades. It is believed the majority of Nagorno-Karabakh population of 120,000 will leave for Armenia; 35,000 of them are children. Most who are leaving are leaving their homes and belongings behind.

Humanitarian Response

World Vision Armenia has been operating in Armenia since 1988. Its program is the largest and one of the most well-known non-profit organizations in the country. It has extensive expertise in the fields of emergency response, child protection, civic and human rights, gender mainstreaming, youth and adolescent development, and others.

In response, World Vision Armenia will target the most vulnerable people, in particular persons at risk, older persons, persons with disabilities, female-headed households, households with children and other vulnerable groups. It will provide blankets and warm clothes, along with hygiene and home supplies to displaced Armenians, together with cash for urgent needs for food, non-food items, rent, utilities, healthcare, livelihood and other purposes.
