CARE in action
In Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, conflict has severely impacted the lives of many people, including Fatima Ibrahim, a 33-year-old mother of seven. Forced to flee from their farming town of Gaidam after an attack in March 2021, Fatima and her family now live in the Lawanti community of Yusufari, facing food insecurity and malnutrition.
Fatima's family struggles with limited resources, often skipping meals and dealing with the stress of uncertain food supplies. As a result, her 18-month-old son suffered from nutrient deficiencies, highlighting their daily challenges.
To support families like Fatima's, CARE Canada and its local partners, with help from the Humanitarian Coalition, provided food relief packages and weekly feeding counseling for mothers with infants and young children. These efforts aim to address immediate needs and improve overall health, respecting the dignity of people affected by the conflict. CARE also provided vulnerable families with cash assistance and hygiene kits.
"My son Muhammad's nutritional status has improved greatly...I want to say thank you to CARE for your assistance." - Fatima
