Over the past year, Afghanistan's overlapping humanitarian crises have escalated. In additional to the unstable political and economic situation, the country is experiencing one of the worst droughts in 27 years, resulting in food, water and supplies being extremely scarce.

This combination of food insecurity, poverty and income loss, displacement, and armed conflict has created immense challenges for many people across the country and increased protection risks, especially for women and girls.

Furthermore, on June 22, 2022, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit in the remote and mountainous region of southeastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan. More than 1,000 people were killed and at least 1,500 injured in what is considered Afghanistan's deadliest earthquake in more than 20 years. Further, critical infrastructure such as roads and power supplies were also badly damaged.

Members of the Humanitarian Coalition are responding. Donations will help fund the distribution of water storage kits, food packs and cash so that people can buy supplies. Member agencies on the ground are also providing medical care in health centers supporting displaced families.
