2024 – Year in review

In 2024, we responded to two major humanitarian crises: the ongoing devastating emergency in Gaza, continuing our urgent response from 2023, and the recent emergency in Lebanon, for which we launched a national fundraising campaign in October.

In total, including the matching funds from the Government of Canada, we raised more than $37 million for these two emergencies to provide vital humanitarian assistance to more than 1.1 million people

Beyond these major emergencies, the Humanitarian Coalition and its member organizations also responded to 15 other disasters across 13 countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Nigeria, Vietnam, and the Philippines. These efforts addressed:

  • 10 floods
  • 4 tropical storms (hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones)
  • 1 landslide

While some of these crises received limited media attention, their impact on affected communities was devastating. With your support, we delivered emergency aid to close to 200,000 people affected by these 15 lesser-known disasters, offering hope and relief when it was needed most.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of Canadians from coast to coast to coast and the partnership of the Government of Canada. With our members positioned to respond in 150 countries, Canadians trust us as a reliable partner in life-saving humanitarian work, and for that we are grateful.

While we cannot prevent storms, earthquakes, droughts, floods, or conflict in 2025, we can come together to support those in need. Together, we stand united in the face of adversity, meeting the immediate needs of children, families, and communities while building resilience for the long term in an increasingly challenging world. Together, we save more lives.
