Situation in DRC (Congo)
Following recent developments in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the town of Goma and its surrounding areas are of particular concern to the member agencies of the Humanitarian Coalition. Along with our local partners on the ground, we are closely monitoring access to humanitarian aid and encourage all parties involved to ensure that essential humanitarian assistance is not prevented from reaching people in need.
Over the years, this complex conflict has claimed the lives of thousands, including women and children, and caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands from their homes and communities.
Most of our member agencies are currently implementing a number of programs in the Goma region and beyond. Those include the delivery of clean water, the screening of displaced children for malnutrition, and the distribution of life-saving health equipment and shelters.
We commend the dedication, professionalism and courage of humanitarian workers on the ground in DRC.
