The Humanitarian Coalition and its member agencies welcome the Government of Canada’s decision to launch a Matching Fund program for the response to the Nepal earthquake. Canadians have until May 25th to see their donations matched by the government into its response pool for the Nepal disaster.
As the death toll is already in the thousands and continues to rise, our member agencies are on the ground assessing the situation and responding to immediate needs such as shelter, clean water, food, and emergency medicine.
The full scale of the devastation will be revealed in the days to come as access to remote communities is slowly restored. We are ready to respond with robust relief efforts, but millions in funding will be needed to carry out life-saving operations and ensure that affected populations are able to recover and rebuild.
